You’re going to be seeing a lot of talk about Holograms from now on. That holodeck from Star Trek is finally here and is part of Microsoft’s Windows 10 release. And there is a lot of excitement about it on twitter right now. Here’s the official demo which is very impressive indeed:

Exciting? Yes. A massive UX challenge? Absolutely
From a user experience perspective a holographic interface is going to present a lot of challenges. Designing interfaces for gesture is already a really tough thing to get right. Combine this with a multitude of different user interfaces, then add in the less technical savvy users with a myriad of differing user goals and you have an immense UX challenge. One thing is for sure, good UX people will be in high demand if Hololens really takes off.
